My name is Fanaka. It means "blessings" in Swahili. I am a rapper, dancer and MC based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My movement, Fanaka Nation, touches on the concept of spreading and sharing blessings through the gift of music and dance. Grabbing the mic was a life- changing experience. At age 9, I happened to be at a concert with my dad when the DJ accorded me the unexpected honor of introducing the featured artist. Holding the mic in my hand was totally empowering. I never let go since. I recorded my first song "BOP" in 2011 when I was 13 and followed with a second single Turn me up the same year. In 2012, I did a collabo "Obama Ubarikiwe" with African singer Samba Mapangala. I dropped my mixed tape titled Fanaka Nation in 2013, which I launched at my first ever out-of-state concert in Dallas, Texas. My first EP Plan Be with seven tracks dropped November of 2016 and I'm currently working on my second EP.
I enjoy performing live and do so quite frequently at different indoor and outdoor events as a solo act, with a band or collaborating with other musicians and performers.
I'm a graduate of Elk River High School and a current student of creative writing at Anoka Ramsey Community College.
